The history of Dolby at the Emmys®
We’re delighted that over 25 shows nominated for the 2020 Emmy® awards were made with Dolby technologies. We’re proud of our long history with the Emmys®. Our founder, Ray Dolby, was recognized with his first Emmy®, an Outstanding Individual Achievement award, back in 1989. Ray received two other Emmys® over the years including the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. As a company, between 1998 and the present, Dolby has been recognized for our contributions to technological advances in television with twelve Emmys®.
We’ve continued to make huge leaps forward in audio innovation and techniques, and visual technology. While we originally created Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for the cinema, TV directors, sound artists, and visual designers have also harnessed these technologies for powerful storytelling for the small screen. It’s a huge source of pride to us that every year, creatives who use our technologies to create amazing shows, are honored with Emmy® nominations and awards.
